Japan, the US, and South Korea recently conducted maritime interdiction training in order to enhance their capabilities in countering the threat posed by North Korea. The joint exercises aimed to improve coordination and communication between the three countries’ navies, with a focus on interdicting and countering North Korean submarines.

According to the Nikkei Asia article, the training involved anti-submarine drills and was conducted in response to North Korea’s continued development of submarine-launched ballistic missiles. The exercises were aimed at deterring North Korea’s ability to launch such missiles and ensuring the safety and security of the region.

The Korean Ministry of Defense has announced that it has conducted joint military exercises with Japan and the United States to prevent North Korea from transporting weapons of mass destruction by sea.

On the 9th and 10th, the Korean Ministry of Defense conducted naval training and anti-piracy training with Japan and the United States to prevent the proliferation of North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction in the waters off Jeju Island.

This is the first maritime interdiction exercise conducted by the three countries since 2016 and the first anti-piracy exercise since 2017.

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan of the United States, the Aegis destroyer of South Korea, and the Hyuga destroyer of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force participated in the exercise.

The Ronald Reagan is scheduled to enter the Busan base in South Korea on the 12th. North Korea, which is concerned about the deployment of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and strategic bombers near the Korean Peninsula, may once again take provocative military actions such as missile launches. It seems likely that it will reappear.
