A US Navy surveillance aircraft flew through international airspace over the Taiwan Strait on the 12th, according to information from the U.S. Navy’s Seventh Fleet. The flight is said to be in accordance with international law and demonstrates the US’s commitment to maintaining freedom and openness in the Indo-Pacific region.

However, the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has opposed the US’s actions, claiming it to be a provocative act. They also emphasized that Japan will protect sovereignty and stability in the region.

The Taiwan Defense Agency also stated that maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is crucial for the security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region. All parties, including China, have a shared responsibility in maintaining this status quo.

Reuters reports that in recent years, Taiwan has continuously protested against China’s military pressure, particularly the sending of aircraft and warships near the island.

In August, the U.S. approved the sale of advanced sensor equipment to Taiwan to enhance its defense capabilities. The deal was valued at a total of $500 million.

In this context, maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait and safeguarding sovereignty and security are crucial for the entire Indo-Pacific region. All parties need to work together to preserve this status quo.
